Beginning in 2009 with the 2008–2009 school year and each subsequent third school year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will release only the primary form of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests and answer keys. On this page, you'll find the released tests for the English and Spanish TAKS.
Each item on the answer keys for TAKS includes the objective measured and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) student expectation. The objectives, which are the reporting units for each test, are consistent from year to year. However, since not all student expectations are tested each year, the specific student expectations tested may vary from one test administration to another. Some student expectations will be included each year, while others will not. The student expectations selected for a test are representative of the range of content and difficulty eligible for each objective being assessed. Some items could possibly have been classified under more than one student expectation; in such cases, educator committee members helped TEA staff reach consensus on the best alignment of an item.
The intent of showing both the objective and the student expectation for each item on the TAKS answer keys is to help school personnel better analyze test results. Such analysis clarifies the connection between curriculum and assessment and may be used to improve instructional programs.
The released tests include many complicated graphics and some printers may experience trouble with printing. If you have trouble printing or downloading the released tests, please visit our Downloading and Printing PDFs web page. If the problems continue, please contact Pearson to obtain a hard copy of the released tests.
NOTE: When printing released TAKS tests for either mathematics or science, make sure the Print Menu is set to print the pages at 100% to ensure that the art reflects the intended measurement.
